About us
The Thames Business Association (TBA) is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to supporting, connecting and advocating for businesses across Thames and the surrounding district.
Established in 2018 following strong support from the local business community, the Association was formed on a simple belief: businesses achieve more when they work together. Today, we represent a diverse network of businesses, organisations and commercial property owners who share a commitment to a thriving local economy and vibrant community.
Our Vision
A connected, resilient and prosperous business community that contributes to the long-term success of Thames.
Our Purpose
To support local businesses by:
Our Place
Thames is unlike anywhere else in New Zealand.
Positioned at the gateway to the Coromandel, our district is shaped by a unique mix of industries, communities and landscapes. We support a diverse economy that includes retail, tourism, hospitality, marine services, agriculture, trades, manufacturing and professional services.
As both a service centre for the wider region and a destination in its own right, Thames experiences opportunities and challenges that are different from larger cities and many provincial towns.
We believe a thriving local economy and a healthy, vibrant community go hand in hand. Our role is to champion the interests of local business while recognising the unique character, environment and future potential of the place we call home.
What we value
Community.
Strong businesses help build strong communities.
Collaboration.
We believe better outcomes happen when people work together.
Advocacy.
We champion the interests of local business and help ensure their voices are heard.
Place.
We celebrate the unique character of Thames and the wider district, recognising that our environment, industries and communities shape the way we live, work and do business.
Resilience.
We support our business community through challenges, change and opportunity.
How we work
The Association is governed by a committee of local business owners and community leaders who volunteer their time and expertise.
We work alongside local government, community organisations, industry groups and other stakeholders to help create positive outcomes for Thames. Our focus is practical and local.
We listen to our members, respond to emerging issues and look for opportunities that benefit the wider business community.
Looking ahead
As Thames continues to evolve, so too does the role of the Association. We remain committed to building connections, fostering collaboration and helping create an environment where local businesses can thrive now and into the future.
